Description
Make this cute Cellini spiral beaded basket using Peyote stitch variations. You’ll be working with basic seed beads. So, let me tell you a little more about this.
Materials
You will need the following materials to make your Cellini spiral beaded basket:
- Size 11 delicas
- Size 11 rounded seed beads
- 4mm firepolish (or 4mm pearls)
- Size 8 rounded seed beads
- Fireline thread
In the tutorial, I have given you the exact colours that I used. I am also recommending that you use Fireline thread as I think this will help you to achieve the best tension. This is a self-supporting piece, so it requires excellent tension.
You can find out more about how your choice of thread can affect your beading tension in this blog post.
Experience and Techniques
You are going to be using a few different technique variations. They are all basic techniques. But I have assumed that you already know how to do the basics.
So, you should feel comfortable using the following:
- Circular and tubular Peyote
- Making increases in Peyote
- Decreasing in Peyote
- Peyote stitch-in-the-ditch
- Zipping up Peyote
- Tubular herringbone
In the tutorial, I have also linked to an online class that teaches you all these techniques (and more) via video demonstrations. You can also check the free tutorials on this website for some written guides if you need them.
So, provided you feel confident with these basics and are good at following instructions, this project will be great for you.
About the Cellini Spiral Beaded Basket
This is a small basket. It is about 1.5″ high (just the basket) and 2″ across the widest part at the top. With the handle, the full height is 3.5″. Please also bear in mind that the hole at the top is only about 1″ in width. So, you will only be able to fit small items in the basket.
This would make a cute gift for any occasion. As you can see in the photo, you can add a chocolate. Maybe even a little Easter egg if you want to make this an Easter basket. Or, it looks lovely just on its own.
Naturally, the main feature of this design is the Cellini spiral embellishment. So, if you would like to try out more beaded spirals, follow this link to discover more options.
