This superduo Faberge egg beaded box is pretty simple to make. So, you can try different colour combinations and quickly create a beautiful set of gifts or display. Let me tell you more about it…

Materials

You will need the following materials to make your Superduo Faberge egg beaded box:

  • Superduos
  • Size 11 Miyuki rounded seed beads
  • Size 11 Delicas
  • 4mm pearls
  • Size 8 Miyuki seed beads
  • Your choice of beading thread

Now, it is very important that you use the exact bead types and brands that I have recommended. If you try to work with different brands, you’re going to discover that this beaded box design won’t work. If you are new to beading, you might not have realised that the different bead brands are all minutely different in size. So, for some projects, like this, you won’t be able to substitute one brand for another. If you want to find out more, check out this blog post.

You will also need to think about your choice of beading thread for this beaded box. You are creating a self-supporting structure. So, in order for this to work, you need excellent tension. Your beading thread will contribute to this.

My personal recommendation is Fireline. But you are free to experiment with other choices if you wish.

Experience and Techniques

You are going to be using a combination of techniques in this project. So, before you start, you need to feel comfortable with the following:

  • working with Superduos
  • making increases in Peyote stitch
  • tubular Peyote stitch
  • basic square stitch
  • stitch-in-the-ditch technique

In the PDF tutorial, I have linked to an online class that will teach you all these things (and more) if you need extra help. You can also find free tutorials covering some of the basic techniques at this link.

So, this is for experienced beaders who are happy with the techniques listed and are able to follow written instructions.

About the Superduo Faberge Egg Beaded Box

This beaded box measures about 2.5″ high and 2″ across. It opens and closes with a hinged lid. I did not include a fastener, but you can always add one if you wish.

The tutorial gives you my colour choices. But you can also create your own colour combinations for this.

These make beautiful gifts for any time of the year.
