This book beaded box pattern uses a mixture of different bead-weaving techniques. So, read on to find out more…

Materials

You will need size 11 Delicas to make your book beaded box. You just need two colours. A third is optional to use for the book title if you wish. And you will need about 20g in each colour.

The finished book measures about 1.75″ x 2.25″ x 1.25″. It opens like a real book to reveal storage space inside. The storage space is big enough to hold a reel of KO Thread, just to give you a sense of scale.

If you wanted to make this bigger, you could use size 10 Delicas to automatically increase the size.

Experience and Techniques

This is a project for advanced beaders.

You will be using a mix of basic bead-weaving techniques. I have assumed you are competent in all of them. So, if you need any extra help with the techniques, you could reference this blog.

These techniques are:

  • Cubic Right Angle Weave
  • Peyote stitch – tubular, decreasing, stitch-in-the-ditch, zipping together and odd count
  • Flat Herringbone Weave

I have included some diagrams and photos to illustrate the steps.

About the book beaded box pattern

I created this design with the thought of end-of-school-year teacher gifts in mind. So, the book has a title, ‘Thanks’ which would be perfect for this occasion.

However, it also occurred to me that this looks rather like a traditional spell book. So, for all you fans of Harry Potter, and similar, that could be an option. It is simple to change the title to ‘Spells’.

I have included instructions for designing a different title and how to alter the size of the book if you wish. Both processes are very simple. So, you can personalise this to suit your needs.

You can also work in any colouring. I have included the Delica colours that I used, but you are free to change this.

So, I look forward to seeing what you all do with this design!
