Beaded Earrings Tutorial: ‘Elegance’
This beaded earrings tutorial evolved from another pair of earrings with which I wasn’t entirely happy! I cut them up and re-modelled them, resulting in this design. I rather like it..although I’m not sure if I should be the one saying that! You can check for yourself though – find the original earrings here.
Now, you may have noticed, I don’t make a lot of earrings. I have nothing against earrings, but somehow I always seem to end up making necklaces or bracelets. This is something I am keen to rectify.
I was offered the perfect opportunity when I was asked by Leslie Rogalski, from the Beadsmith Inspiration Squad to have a go at creating a beaded earrings tutorial using the new 14mm glass cabochons.
I picked my colour (not easy, let me tell you – the colour range in which these cabochons are available is fabulous!). Then, Leslie included the cabochons in my first bead pack. Also in the bead pack were some lentils and silky beads – both new to me. Or rather, I was aware of their existence, but had not yet tried using them.
So I’ve had a great time putting this design together and working with the new beads. I’ve also learned a lot about them in the process. So do pop over and check the links if you want to find out more about how to use them.
Techniques
This beaded earrings tutorial will teach you how to use Modified Right Angle Weave and Peyote stitch to bezel around a cabochon. Then continue working in Peyote stitch to add a row of lentils around the edge. Finally, use the Silky beads to create a small focal area for hanging the earrings.
I attached my earring findings directly through a bead, but you might wish to use a split ring. This project is pretty quick to make and the design is elegant enough for any occasion. So have a bit of fun trying out some different colour combinations.
