About the Peyote Star Bauble
Peyote star bauble designed by Katie Dean.
This design came about after teaching a class that covered my beaded Christmas bauble and the scatter stars from my Beaded Christmas Table book. One of the ladies in the class picked up her peyote star and a blank bauble and said how great the stars would look on a bauble. Well, say no more! I headed straight home with thoughts of how to arrange peyote stars over the surface of a bauble. This pattern is the result.
Materials and techniques
You will be mixing up peyote stars made in different sizes of seed beads. The project uses very basic peyote stitch, but I have found that beginners are quite happy making these stars. So you don’t need a lot of experience.
The pattern includes 5 pages of instructions. This gives you detailed diagrams and photos to show you how to arrange the peyote stars around the bauble. Having said that, if you are an experienced beader, there is no reason why you can’t work out your own arrangement of stars!
In addition to the range of seed beads, you will of course need a 60mm bauble. Mine came from GJ Beads. However, this is a more forgiving bauble design than some. So if you have purchased baubles from a different source and they are a slightly different size, you should be able to adjust your peyote stars to fit.
I made this design in red and gold, to match my Christmas tree colour theme. But this is actually a very adaptable pattern. Each peyote star requires only a few beads. So if you have a lot of tubes of seed beads with just a few left in each, then this is a great project for using them up. I would recommend buying a silver bauble and then covering it with peyote stars in a range of different colours. Of course, the options are endless. So when you have finished your own variation, do please share a photo.
