Description
This Easter basket pendant beading pattern combines brick stitch and peyote stitch. The pendant is about 1″ in size. So, it is light and comfortable to wear on your favourite chain or beaded rope.
Materials
I made the Easter basket portion of the pendant using size 11 delicas, colour DB2262. You might choose to use a different colour.
Then, the little Easter eggs inside the basket use size 11 seed beads. You could make them with delicas, but I prefer the more rounded shape of the seed beads. I felt like this would help with getting a good egg shape.
Each egg needs just a handful of beads, so you can use up some beads from your stash.
You also need beading thread. Choose the thread that you enjoy using. You will need something that gives you good tension. But this varies for everyone.
Experience and Technique
Your Easter basket pendant uses two beading techniques, as I mentioned. In the instructions, I have assumed that you are already familiar with both brick stitch and peyote stitch. But don’t worry – if you need a reminder, or some help, I have free tutorials that you can use.
For the brick stitch portion of the project, you need the following skills
- Basic brick stitch
- Shaping flat brick stitch
So, if you need help with either of those, you can find blogs covering the techniques here>>
For the peyote stitch portion, you need these skills:
- circular peyote
- peyote increasing
- an awareness of two drop peyote
Again, don’t worry if you’re not sure about the techniques. I have free blogs that cover all these in detail, at this link>>
This is an intermediate level project.
About the Easter basket pendant
This is a project that happened completely by accident. It was Spring time and I was experimenting to try and get the right shape for a completely different project.
However, as so often happens with the design process, the object I created wasn’t right for the idea in my head. So, should I just take all this beading apart? Or, could I use it for another purpose?
Well, the shape and colouring made me think of a basket. Being Spring, Easter was on the horizon. And I remembered some little Easter egg charms I had made previously. So, I combined all those ideas to come up with the Easter basket pendant.
All I had to do was add a handle to my basket and stitch a couple of eggs into it. Now, it occurred to me that this would also look good filled with flowers. So, maybe that is something for you to try…
Instead of making your Easter eggs, try using some freeform and flower beads to fill the basket!
