Description
This carrot cake slice beaded box was inspired by a carrot cake on sale at Easter in my local supermarket. It’s a cute pattern, so let me tell you more about it.
Materials
You will need size 11 Delicas to make your carrot cake slice. If you want a larger box, you can also make this with size 10 delicas. The project uses about 25g of beads in total.
Then, just use your favourite beading thread. Any beaded box needs good tension to create a stable finish. So, I realise that different people find this easiest to achieve with different threads. For me, Fireline is excellent. If you are new to beading, then I encourage you to experiment with thread and find what works for you.
If you want to know more about the different types of beading thread, then check out this blog>>
Experience and Techniques
You will work in Peyote stitch to make your carrot cake slice. The pattern assumes you are already comfortable working in circular and tubular Peyote and making increases and decreases. If you need a little refresher, you can download some free tutorials here>>
This is an advanced project. There are a few little fiddly bits in the lid. So, if you are new to making beaded boxes, you might like to try a simpler box first. The parcel beaded box would be an ideal way to build up to this project.
About the carrot cake slice beaded box
As I said, this project was inspired by a real cake. You may have seen carrot cake decorated like this. Coloured icing moulded into the shape of carrots sit on top of the cake, as if they were buried in the earth. I could immediately see how this would translate into beads.
I debated whether to make my carrot cake slice as a square or a rectangle. In the end, I decided to stick with a square.
The trickiest part of this pattern is the lid. It is made in small sections that you then join together. So, it is the joining that you might find tricky. But I have included lots of detailed diagrams to help with thread paths. Plus photos to show the details of the project. So, along with my clear explanations, you should be able to make your own carrot cake slice beaded box. I hope you have fun doing it!
