Description
Now, I have a confession to make: I’m thoroughly addicted to Peyote stars! So, I wanted to share this particular beaded Peyote star pattern with you all. It has a lovely abstract design which is perfect for colouring exactly as you want. Let me tell you a little more…
Materials
You will need size 11/0 cylinder beads for this project. Now, you might be wondering what cylinder beads are? Well, you probably know them better by their brand names: Delicas, or AIKO beads.
The Delica brand is made by the Miyuki bead company. AIKOs are made by the TOHO company. Both work very well for this beaded Peyote star pattern. In fact, you will see, I created stars using both types of bead in this tutorial.
You are going to need five different colours for this pattern. I have given you four colour combinations that I’ve used. So, you might want to try those. Or you might prefer to create your own colour scheme.
If you’re a little wary of choosing your own bead colours, then this online course could be just what you need to help you.
In addition to the beads, you should use your favourite bead-weaving thread. My personal choice is Fireline, but any thread will work for this.
Experience and Techniques
You will be working in Peyote stitch, using the warped squares technique. I have assumed you already know how to make a basic star, but if that is not the case, the tutorial includes a link to an online class that will teach you all the basics.
This tutorial gives you a pattern chart and also a word chart for your star.
About the beaded Peyote star pattern
This star is a small size that is perfect to wear as a pendant, or use as a decorative ornament. It measures about 5cm (2″) in diameter. So, it is fairly quick to make…if you’re a reasonably speedy beader, you could make this in a few hours.
I love making stars this size. They make beautiful pendants. But the smaller size also means they’re quicker to make. So, if you are aiming to decorate a Christmas tree, you can make several in a fairly short space of time. If you’re interested in trying another design in this size, check out my cupcake design here.
