Beaded Triangle Cabochon Necklace
This necklace evolved from an earring design with which I wasn’t entirely happy! If you want to find out more, you can read the earring story here. I actually ended up cutting up the earrings to separate out the components. So, I was left with a pair of beaded triangle shapes.
I already had an idea for these! I had thought about the possibility of creating overlapping linked triangles.
The size of these beaded triangles made them more suited to a necklace than a bracelet. However, there is certainly potential for using the idea in a bracelet, so watch this space!
I felt the beaded triangle section needed a focal pendant. So, I made this using a combination of different beads that had been sent as part of my first Beadsmith Inspiration Squad pack. I added in 4mm faceted beads and, of course, the delicas from my own stash. It’s safe to say that I’m much happier with this design!
Techniques
To make the necklace, you will be working in Peyote stitch. You will use size 11 delicas to create six beaded triangle shapes.
The cabochon is made separately. It is bezelled using Modified Right Angle Weave and Peyote stitch. Then you will embellish it with lentils and 4mm faceted beads.
A little beaded chain links all the components to create the focal front half of the necklace. I then simply strung this onto another beaded chain. This uses basic jewellery making techniques.

The colour range is fabulous and the shape of these cabochons makes them both easy to bead around and very attractive to look at. They look like they could be a form of dyed natural stone, but they are just made from glass. I will definitely be using more of them in my work!
