Description
This Pastrami on Rye beaded box was a special request from the Beadsmith. So, let me tell you more about that story later on! For now, here is what you need to know about this project.
Materials
You are going to be using size 10 delicas in five colours, plus Paisley Duo beads. You can check my beading supplies department for these beads.
I also have a kit available here if that makes life easier for you>>
Then, you will also need a beading thread that will allow you to get good tension. My personal choice is Fireline. But I know that different threads work for different people. So, just use whatever works best for you.

Experience and Techniques
You are going to be working in Peyote stitch for this beaded box. It mainly uses the tubular and circular variations. But you will also use a little bit of flat odd count. In the instructions I have assumed you are already familiar with Peyote stitch. So, if you need more help, you might also want to download my free peyote stitch tutorials from this website.
In addition, part of the box uses some freeform beading. It is very simple and I have guided you through with written instructions and detailed photos to show what I did.
The entire pattern is supported by photos and diagrams to help you understand the written steps.
So, I suggest this project is for confident beaders.
The story behind the Pastrami on Rye box
Now, as I mentioned at the start, this beaded box was a special request. I’ve been making a lot of beaded boxes and they seem to be widely enjoyed.
So, I was having a conversation with Steven Weiss from the Beadsmith and he asked if I could make him a Pastrami on Rye box. He had some Paisley Duos in one of the new Tutti Frutti colours and he thought they would be great for mustard.
Now, I have to confess, not being from New York, I’m not too familiar with this Pastrami on Rye delicacy. (Although I have since spotted it as a sandwich in a local sandwich shop here in the UK!). So, I did my research… that is, googled images!… and came up with this.
I felt I should make the order nice and healthy by adding some lettuce! But I packed in lots of Pastrami slices and topped it all with the mustard. So, I’m just hoping Steven will be pleased with his order…
