About the Ava Beads Snowflake Earrings
As I launch this pattern, Ava beads are new to the market. They are supplied by the Potomac Bead Company and are Czech manufactured. They are available in a range of colours.
This bead is basically a Chevron shape with three holes. You can find out more about the design and how to use Ava beads on this blog. If you wish to buy AVA beads for this project, I have them available here for purchase.
My snowflake earrings were the first design I created with my pack of beads. There are all manner of ways in which these beads can be arranged. The snowflake motif is a good one. So I spent some time experimenting with how to bead around it.
I used DiscDuos, which are also supplied by Potomac Bead Company, and then size 11 Miyuki seed beads.
The design is simple, but you have to be careful following the thread path so that you do not end up with thread showing around your beads. I mention that I used Miyuki brand because I have given you the bead counts that I found fitted around my design. Different brands of beads are slightly different sizes. So if you are using another brand of seed bead, this design should still work, but you may need to alter the bead count.
Notes on the beads
I found the Ava beads a joy to work with. They have lovely big holes, so will accommodate plenty of thread passes, which is good for this project.
Do watch out though – as with any bead, sometimes the holes get blocked in manufacture. Sometimes it is possible to unblock them, but not always.
So, please remember to check all your bead holes before using each bead. The Ava beads have three holes each. The DiscDuos have two holes and, of course these should be checked as well.
You can find more patterns from me here. These earrings will not use many beads, so you may want to grab another pattern as well for using the rest of your Ava beads stash!
