This beaded candy canes tutorial will give you four different variations. Together, they create a wonderful display, or you can just bead one or two. So, let me tell you more!

Materials

You are going to need seed beads in red and white, in sizes 11, 8 and 6. Each different design uses a different combination of these beads, so if you have access to at least 20g of each, you will have plenty to make all four designs.

You will also need your favourite beading thread. My personal recommendation is 6lb fireline, but you can use other thread.

And you will need some 6″ lengths of straight wire to stiffen the candy canes. You can find this type of wire in craft shops or among floristry supplies.

Experience and Techniques

This beaded candy canes tutorial is suitable for all levels of experience. I have carefully created designs that will allow you to learn the basics and then build on those skills as you grow more confident.

You will be working in Peyote stitch.

If you need more help, or if you would like to try even more projects, I also run an online class. In the class you will get an additional 8 designs, plus video demonstrations to help with the techniques, and a special module teaching you how to design your own candy canes. So, if you prefer, you can find the online class at this link: https://my-world-of-beads.teachable.com/p/how-to-make-beaded-candy-canes-using-seed-beads/

About the beaded candy canes tutorial

This tutorial gives you 6 pages of written instructions and diagrams. I have assumed you are already familiar with the basics of Peyote stitch. So, if that is something you need to learn first, this free tutorial can help. (Or you might be better to join the online class).

Each candy cane is about 5″ (12cm) in length. But it is very easy to lengthen these to make larger candy canes if you desire.

They are a lot of fun to make (positively addictive, in fact!). And they look great hanging on a Christmas tree, or just scattered around your room for decoration. Once you have the hang of the technique, you can make a full candy cane in a couple of hours.

  1. Easy to follow patterns, with variations. Once you’ve made one or two you can adapt for other beads. Katie writes excellent, easy to follow patterns, all you need is knowledge of basic peyote stitch.
