About the Peyote stitch flower pattern
I designed this flower as a decoration for my brother’s wedding cake. He and his fiancée wanted some personal touches to their day. So they asked if I would make something to add to their cake.
After liaising with the lady making the cake, we decided that a flower a little over an inch in diameter would be the perfect idea. It created a focal point on the ribbon around the top tier of the cake. I made my original flower in royal blue and white to match the colour scheme for the day. Happily, my brother and his fiancée were very pleased with my efforts.
I liked the project so much that I decided to write up my peyote stitch flower pattern. So, as you can see from the photo, I have since made it in different colour schemes. This is certainly a project that lends itself to any colour scheme you choose. My original royal blue and white version used a strongly contrasting colour scheme. Since then, I have experimented with peyote stitch flower patterns in more analogous colourings.
The instructions will take you through step-by-step. Each step is accompanied with either a diagram or detailed photo to guide you through the techniques. You will begin with a very basic Right Angle Weave, but the majority of the project is made in peyote stitch. You’re going to make each petal using the same technique. So this is a great project for practising and reinforcing your skills. The pattern also advises you how to turn your flower into a brooch or pendant.
