This project is not for the faint-hearted! The Superduo beaded bead necklace comprises two different beaded beads. The first is made using Miyuki drops. I included this as it will help you to learn the technique.

Having mastered that, I then show you how to apply it to the Superduo beads. Now, with their two hole structure, you will be creating a Superduo beaded bead that has layers to it. This may sound complicated. It may also feel complicated first time around. But once you get into the flow, these beaded beads are so much fun to make.

Techniques and Experience

You are going to be working in a variation of Prismatic Right Angle Weave. This is a three-dimensional technique. So, if you struggle with 3-D concepts, you are going to find this challenging.

If you are already comfortable with Cubic Right Angle Weave, then you have a head start. You should be able to get to grips with the basic pattern, then apply it to make the Superduo beaded bead.

Provided you are happy to persevere and learn, you can try this without much prior experience. I suggest that you begin by getting to know Cubic Right Angle weave, using this free tutorial. Once you have mastered that, you will be able to follow this pattern.

Materials for the Superduo Beaded Bead Necklace

As I mentioned in the beginning, the basic beaded beads use Miyuki drops. I did this simply because it gave a good texture to the bead. I would strongly recommend that you use two different colours since this will help you learn the thread paths.

If you don’t have easy access to the Miyuki drops, you can substitute these with size 8 seed beads, or try 3mm pearls, or True2 beads.

The main Superduo beaded bead uses Superduos, size 11 Delicas and O beads. I then included a beaded clasp. This is made from the size 11 Delicas.

You can string your beaded beads into any type of jewellery. I know this necklace always attracts admiring glances when I wear it. But earrings or bracelets will work just as well!

This is also a great project for experimenting with different colours. Beaded beads don’t require a huge number of beads, so you can use the design to use up some of your odds and ends.
