Description
This is one of my projects for the Beadsmith Inspiration Squad. I designed this Rulla beads bracelet a while ago. But looking at it again, reminds me, I must do some more designs with Rulla beads – they are a delight to use!
Materials
For the Rulla Beads bracelet, you will need the following:
- Rulla beads
- Size 11 Miyuki seed beads
- Pellet beads
- Beading thread of your choice
The pattern gives you the precise quantities and also my colour choices.
Techniques and Experience
I used brick stitch to create this design. So, I’m going to explain a little more about the idea below. Basically, if you know how to work in brick stitch (or you’re willing to learn), then this is a great project for you.
If you do need some help with the techniques, then I have a couple of free tutorials you can download. Go for the basic brick stitch and also the circular brick stitch, or learning how to increase and decrease.
About the Rulla Beads Bracelet
This design really stemmed from the Pellet beads. If you’ve never come across them before, they are a really interesting shape. So, they look rather like a tube, but the central area is pulled inwards. So, you end up with an almost hour-glass shape.
This gave me the idea of beading around them, since the seed beads nestle beautifully around this ‘squashed in’ middle section.
I then built the colour and texture out. I find the Rulla beads give a stunning finish. They really are tube shaped, so they add a lot of texture to the design.
I’m afraid I couldn’t resist the pun on ‘Rule Britannia’… (you know, ‘Britannia Rulla Waves’ – ‘Britannia Rule the Waves’!)…
Anyway, if this has inspired you to try either of these shaped seed beads, I have a couple more pattern ideas below. So, since you’re going to need to buy the beads anyway, why not grab them all and it will justify the bead purchase!
