Description
I kept hearing the phrase, ‘It’s Wine O’Clock’ and I was struck by the thought that I could make a piece of jewellery to this theme. So, it didn’t take me long to work out that it needed to be a necklace. This is the result!
Techniques and Experience
The Wine o’Clock Necklace pattern uses one-drop and two-drop peyote to make a miniature wine glass pendant.
I have combined this with vine leaves and bunches of grapes. These are made from a combination of netting, peyote and stringing. If you need any reminders about the different beading techniques, check out this blog.
Finally, use CRAW to make the grapevine from which these components hang.
The pattern includes 8 pages of instructions with detailed photos and diagrams. It assumes knowledge of the basic bead-weaving techniques. So, I would definitely recommend that this project is best suited to more advanced beaders.
Materials
You will be using just size 11 Delica beads and size 8 seed beads to make this. So, you might have to shop around to get the right colouring. I have given you the exact Delica colour codes that I used.
I also used a clever trick with coloured thread to create the illusion of red wine in the glass. You can check out my beading supplies for materials. Or I have a complete kit available here.
About the Wine O’Clock Necklace
As I said in the beginning, this project is a bit of fun. I was inspired by the common phrase that gives this necklace its name.
So, when I decided to bead something on this theme, I wanted to reflect the entire wine-making process. I thought it would be rather cute to suspend a glass of wine from a grapevine. Imagine if you really could pluck a glass from a vine!
This is a lovely project if you like to try out some different techniques. People always admire my necklace whenever I wear it. So, I hope you enjoy creating your own necklace. One final word from me… Cheers!
