Strawberries and Cream Cuff
This strawberries and cream pattern originally featured in Perlen Poesie magazine in June 2013. I came up with the idea for the design after I had been working on projects for my ‘Sweet Treats‘ book. I had created a design for strawberries with chocolate dip for the book and I had created beaded cream. So it was really a natural progression to combine the two to create something inspired by the delicacy that is strawberries and cream.
The lightbulb moment for me in this design process was working out how to use the cream to weave around the strawberries. I made the strawberries as beaded beads that can be strung onto anything – in this case, a beadalon bracelet. I realised that I would need ‘elbows’ in the length of cream to allow it to bend around the strawberries. These ‘elbows’ were also created in such a way as to allow the beadalon to be strung through the cream. The answer to my problem lay in a simple combination of two beading techniques.
About the project
The strawberries and cream cuff uses a combination of Peyote stitch and Right Angle Weave. The bracelet is fastened with a magnetic clasp concealed under the cream. You will be working with a combination of size 11 delica beads and seed beads in a range of sizes. This project is suitable for intermediate to advanced beaders. In addition to knowledge of circular and tubular Peyote and basic Cubic Right Angle Weave, you will need to use crimps to attach the clasp. The pattern can be adapted to fit all wrist sizes – just vary the number of strawberries used. This includes 9 pages of instructions with diagrams.
