Description
Have you ever considered making a six-pointed Peyote star? Well, this snowman design is a great place to start. So, let me tell you more about this beading project.
Materials
You will need size 11 cylinder beads to make your six-pointed Peyote star. I chose to use Miyuki Delica beads, but this will also work with TOHO AIKO beads.
The PDF tutorial gives you the exact bead quantities and colours that I used. You are free to use your own colouring if you prefer, so this could be a good way to use up odds and ends for features like the scarf and nose.
You will also need your favourite beading thread. Now, you want something that gives you good tension. So, I chose to use Fireline.
Experience and Techniques
You are going to be working in Peyote stitch, making warped squares. So, this is a fairly basic technique. The PDF includes a pattern chart, word chart, and a reminder of the warped square technique, plus the technique for joining squares to form a star.
If you need additional help, I have also included links to an online class that demonstrates the techniques on video.
About the six-pointed Peyote star pattern
Although I have created a six-pointed star, you can also use this tutorial to make a more traditional five-pointed Peyote star. The primary reason for learning how to create six-pointed stars is to create tea light stars. What are they? Well, these beautiful decorations are a new innovation that I created and teach in this online class. (You can see some examples of these tea light decorations in the gallery images for this product listing).
The beauty of this idea is that you can use it with literally ANY Peyote star pattern. So, you might want to check out some more designs at this link. And, it will even work with larger stars and designs from other creators. The only limit is your own imagination (and beading time!)…
