A couple of weeks ago, I announced that I’m going to be doing something bigger and better than ever for International Beading Week 2021… A beaded bee hotel. (If you missed that announcement, you can check it out here). Now let me start by saying thank you – and congratulations – to everyone who has enrolled so far. I’m here today with a Bee Hotel progress report. So, if you’re not already a part of this, perhaps this blog will give you an insight into what you’re missing.
Back when I launched the beaded bee hotel project, I didn’t have much to show you. Just a few sketches and ideas which you can see in this video.
Since then, I’ve been hard at work making hotel rooms. So, today I’m going to give you a little peek at how they are coming to life…
For those of you who haven’t watched the video yet, that sketch is the starting point.
Bee Hotel Progress – first look at the rooms
So, in that sketch, I had outlined a 3-D structure, based loosely on a honeycomb idea. Each section of honeycomb would be a hotel room. And, at that point, I was debating whether these rooms would have hinged doors, pull-out drawers, or lids.
Now, I’ve had the chance to start making some rooms, I’ve decided on hinged doors. I’m still refining the design, but I can give you a first look…
Now, everyone who has already joined this project is able to see the full update. I’ve shown a behind-the-scenes look at how this design has taken shape. I’ve explained the features and talked about what is working well and what still needs to be refined.
Over the next while, I’ll be sharing more videos with all the participants. So, that will be charting my design progress as I create the tutorial that everyone is going to be following.
(If you want to see all that, you’ll need to be registered on the project. So, follow this link).
What is everyone already enjoying?
There is already huge excitement inside the project. I’ve been able to release a list of materials. That’s giving everyone the options to decide what format their hotels will take. And we’ve all been chatting together about how many rooms to create, colouring, and other such decisions.
Members have already been sharing ideas for colouring, bead options and more. So, this is shaping up to be a lovely community.
I’ve also seen some beaded bees appearing. The patterns for those are already available to everyone who is enrolled. And now, with the first phase of the room design complete, I’ve been able to advise on sizing options for the bees. So, that means you can all feel confident in making your bees and knowing that they will fit inside your hotel rooms when that part of the project is released.
I even had a little bit of fun photographing bees in my garden last week!
So, as you can see the bee hotel progress is making headway…
My question to you is:
Are you going to be a part of the bee hotel project?
I know when I launched this, I didn’t give you much to go on. But even so, the available places on this project have been filling up fast!
You see, this isn’t going to be just a pattern that you can get at any time. Oh no – it’s a whole beading experience and it’s only going to be available to a limited number of people, and registration will close for definite on 1st August 2021.
So, if you’re not registered yet, you need to make sure you do it while you still can. And it’s very simple – just follow this link to join the bee hotel now. That will tell you everything you need to know, and once enrolled, you’ll be able to see all the design development in detail.
I look forward to seeing you in there!
Oh, and if you have friends who would enjoy this, make sure you let them know it’s happening.
