Description
Beaded clasps are the perfect alternative to a conventional shop-purchased finding. Have you ever designed the perfect necklace or bracelet and then wondered how to fasten it? This book, by Katie Dean, tells you everything you need to know and is packed with ideas and inspiration.
Beaded clasps designs
This book shows you how to create customised clasps for necklaces and bracelets. You will learn:
- how to choose the correct type of clasp for your project
- how to make a range of beaded clasps from seed beads
- about using these beaded clasps in projects
The projects include ideas from the quirky and whimsical, to timeless elegance. So, you will find something to suit all tastes.
The book includes seven different beaded clasp designs made using
- Peyote stitch
- Herringbone
- Right Angle Weave
Instructions include how to cover concealed magnetic clasps, create toggle clasps and a hook and eye variation. You can then adapt these designs to suit any item of jewellery you have made.
More projects
The book goes on to develop the basic ideas into ten projects to create unique pieces of jewellery. Every project is illustrated with step-by-step diagrams to accompany the clear instructions. So, it is easy to follow.
Katie also explores the function of clasps in design, guiding you through the process of choosing the best clasp for your project. The book explores how and when to use beaded clasps in place of traditional metal clasps.
It also looks at how to use beaded clasps to create your own unique identity as a designer and how to incorporate a clasp into your design. Should your clasp provide the focal point of your design, or sit discreetly within it? What about positioning your clasp? – tucked away at the back doesn’t have to be the only option!
So, if this sounds interesting and you want to see more, I have more photos from inside the book on this Pinterest board.

Love it! Love it! Love it! I have made a few beaded clasps in the past but was always dissatisfied with them as they never seemed sturdy enough. I love the fact that they are demonstrated in different stitches such as Herringbone, Right Angle Weave and Peyote. I have always made clasps in one colour but Katie shows to great effect how combining colours can work. I love the flower clasps as they show you can make your clasp a feature not just functional.
Thanks Katie for a great reference book!
Thanks Jackie – I’m so pleased that you’ve found this book so useful. Thank you for taking the time to write the review – I hope other people will find it helpful too. It was a real pleasure to write this book, so I’m glad that it is also helping others.

I love this book – the pictures are clear and the instructions are well written. The projects that are included are fantastic. I can see that this book will become one of my ‘go to’ resources.
