I’m going to skip over the inevitable apology for the lack of blog and just mention that I really don’t know what happened to November! Although I’ve been doing odd Christmas beading projects for a while now, it is only just hitting me that there are now only 22 days until the Big Day! Rather…
Category: Beadwork
I have been beading for over fifteen years and my beadwork is bound up with my health. You will know this story if you have followed my blog before.
Where My Beadwork Began
I started beading after becoming seriously ill and I have found the beadwork consistently therapeutic. Beading has also given me a creative outlet and I think this is a healthy thing for anyone. I have come to know a lot of other beaders and I realise that many of us are suffering from difficult health conditions.
So, although I wanted to write mostly about my beading adventures, I have also talked more personally. I think we can all support each other. Sometimes it is comforting just to know that you’re not the only one who is struggling. So, I’ve shared some of my struggles and doubts on here. Since I believe it’s important to speak out, I thought I had better start by setting an example!
I hope you enjoy reading about my general beading adventures in this part of the blog.
Inspiration Strikes!
Well, I’m ashamed to notice that this is my first blog of November – I’m not quite sure where this month has gone actually! I had been thinking that I needed to write a blog entry – I’m not short of news, but I was feeling a little short of inspiration. As ever, inspiration tends…
Christmas Come Early
Well, I feel I should apologise for not writing anything at all last week! The past couple of weeks have been a little crazy and it’s all been bead-related. It really feels as though winter has set in here in the UK – we’ve had damp, dull weather and now it’s turning cold. It seems…
Black Swan, White Swan, Bead Tutus
The Royal Ballet’s 2012-13 season opened last night with a magnificent performance of Swan Lake. Happily I seem to have pulled through the worst of the recent ME relapse and was able to get to the theatre and enjoy the show. It was great to be back after a summer without ballet. For anyone who…
Heatherwick Buttons – Part 1
Unfortunately I’m still struggling with a bad bout of M.E. at the moment, so I’ve spent more time resting than beading this week. On the plus side, resting usually means hundreds of new ideas popping into my head, so I’ve been staring at five buttons in the hope of getting one of those Eureka moments!…
Is copying the sincerest form of flattery?
I was a little shocked to read an article that reported a beader on YouTube had posted a video stating that once a beading design is printed in a magazine, readers have the right to use free reign with the design and make it up for re-sale, teach it etc. Happily the article went on…
Cornish Adventures
Well, it’s been two weeks since I posted anything here – I had hoped to be able to write a post or two from Cornwall, but unfortunately my plans for being able to access the internet down there didn’t work out! My family originally came from Cornwall and it is a county that is very…
Olympic Inspiration: the Evolution of a Design
I mentioned in an earlier post that I’d caught the Olympic bug and decided to express that with a new design. Well, after many hours of thought, experimentation and beading, here it is: my Olympic inspired necklace! Just in time for the Paralympic Games and this time around, these seem extra special as they are…
In Celebration of Beaders!
Well, this has been a busy week and I have plenty of topics from which to choose a theme…I could be writing about a brilliant trip to the Globe Theatre to see ‘Taming of the Shrew’. I love that theatre and the way in which it recreates the Shakespearean experience: it feels like stepping back…
An Olympic Hangover
Well, like a lot of the rest of London, if not the UK, or perhaps even the world, I’m suffering a little from an Olympic Hangover! I really did not expect to feel this way, having managed to avoid getting over-excited at the prospect of hosting the Olympics. That’s not to say that I didn’t…
