Well, as forecast, I’ve been busy beading! Unfortunately the majority of my planned 35 or so beaded beads for my battle piece remain unfinished (well actually, mostly un-started!). Some of my fellow battlers are posting that their pieces are finished already! Ok, so we still have a month left to go, but as my piece…
Category: Beadwork
I have been beading for over fifteen years and my beadwork is bound up with my health. You will know this story if you have followed my blog before.
Where My Beadwork Began
I started beading after becoming seriously ill and I have found the beadwork consistently therapeutic. Beading has also given me a creative outlet and I think this is a healthy thing for anyone. I have come to know a lot of other beaders and I realise that many of us are suffering from difficult health conditions.
So, although I wanted to write mostly about my beading adventures, I have also talked more personally. I think we can all support each other. Sometimes it is comforting just to know that you’re not the only one who is struggling. So, I’ve shared some of my struggles and doubts on here. Since I believe it’s important to speak out, I thought I had better start by setting an example!
I hope you enjoy reading about my general beading adventures in this part of the blog.
Battle Skirmishes and Strategic Changes of Direction…
I’ve decided that there’s some kind of correlation between how good I think my beadwork is and how successfully/easily it’s coming together. Or to put it in another way, I’m beginning to think that the battle isn’t so much with my opponent, the very talented Christian V. Rodriguez (did I mention she did rather well…
The Battle Strategy Unfolds
Well, it’s almost the end of week one of the Battle and I have to confess to being totally hooked. All I want to be doing is working on my battle piece, so I’m having to be strict with myself to make sure that I also do the things I need to be doing (sleeping,…
Let Battle Commence!
I’ve been looking forward to 1st April for several weeks now…not because I was planning an April Fool’s joke, but because it’s the day that Battle commenced for 192 incredible bead designer/makers from 35 countries around the world. I count myself incredibly privileged to be in that company this year. The ‘Battle’ has been organised…

Secrets and Celebrations
I don’t know where the weeks are going this year…but apparently it’s now over a month since I updated my blog, which is very bad! It’s not that I don’t have any news, but I seem to have been doing a lot of projects for competitions and future magazine issues that I can’t share with…
Something Old, Something New…
Well, it’s been such a busy few weeks and full of new experiences, so where do I start?…I think the launch of my new book at the start of this month is probably as good a place as any! This is all about the new and the old. My beading journey originally began in 2003…
Are You A Beader?
One of the things people most often ask me is, ‘how do you come up with your ideas?’ Very often I don’t really know the answer to this. Sometimes, as with the Heatherwick Buttons project, the idea comes from an experience that has made an impact on me. Sometimes, it’s my reaction to a particular…

Happy New Year! New Year, fresh start and new resolutions…I’m happy to say that I’ve finally completed my Heatherwick Buttons necklace. For anyone who wants to give it a go, the pattern is now available on here. As promised though, the story behind the design…If you missed part 1 of this saga, then you can…

I just want to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and to say a big thank you to all of you for your support this year. I hope that you all have a peaceful and enjoyable few days with family and friends and that 2013 will bring lots of good things!
