This free download is one in my series of techniques sheets covering basic beadwork techniques to help you to create your own beautiful jewellery at home. I have put all my teaching and beading experience into creating this great tutorial for you. It took me a few hours to write up. I am very happy for you to benefit from it for free. However, if you would like to support my work, so I can bring you more great beading projects, you also have the choice to do that by making a voluntary donation. Thank you!

Jump Rings, Split Rings and Findings

This techniques sheet looks at some of the different findings you will need for jewellery making. Jump rings and split rings are both used for linking elements, like beads on eye pins, or attaching clasps to jewellery. This sheet explains the difference between the types of rings and looks at when you should use each type.

Jump rings can also be used for making chain maille jewellery. If this is something that you would like to try, then this pattern will give you a quick and easy place to start.

There is a special technique for opening and closing jump rings and split rings so that you keep the shape of the ring. The technique is explained in this sheet, accompanied by clear step-by-step photos. You will need some basic jewellery making equipment to use these rings. Either round nose pliers or chain nose pliers work fine.

More Options

If you want to find out more about the tools and different types of finding and equipment you need I can help! My other website, My World of Beads has a lot of resources. I am constantly adding more.

I believe that the basic beading techniques are the fundamentals to all beadwork and you should be able to learn them for free. These techniques are not copyrighted. So I wanted to make sure that everyone has access to well-thought out materials for learning these building blocks.

If you find my style of teaching and writing works for you, then I hope you will return. I will send you a discount coupon. So you can use that to sample some of the patterns on this website. Or, if you live nearby, do please book for one of my classes. You can find an up-to-date list of my teaching schedule on the beading classes page.
