Description
Jump Rings, Split Rings and Findings
This techniques sheet looks at some of the different findings you will need for jewellery making. Jump rings and split rings are both used for linking elements, like beads on eye pins, or attaching clasps to jewellery. This sheet explains the difference between the types of rings and looks at when you should use each type.
Jump rings can also be used for making chain maille jewellery. If this is something that you would like to try, then this pattern will give you a quick and easy place to start.
There is a special technique for opening and closing jump rings and split rings so that you keep the shape of the ring. The technique is explained in this sheet, accompanied by clear step-by-step photos. You will need some basic jewellery making equipment to use these rings. Either round nose pliers or chain nose pliers work fine.
