Even Count Peyote Tutorial

In this free techniques sheet you will learn how to stitch a basic flat strip of even count peyote stitch. The tutorial is clearly illustrated with photos and diagrams.

You will learn how to add some very simple patterns to your even count peyote strip. So, you can make your even count peyote strips into beaded beads. Then string them into a bracelet or necklace.

What you will Learn

I developed this tutorial for my workshops. It is something that I usually use to introduce students to peyote stitch.

I am particularly fond of starting with simple beaded beads for two reasons. Firstly, they are quick to make. So, it is great to see immediate results when you start learning a new stitch.

Secondly, the trickiest part of even count peyote is the initial few rows. So if you are making a project that comprises lots of beaded beads, you will have lots of opportunities to try starting out.

All my students see immediate progress with this project. Your first beaded bead will probably be a little bit wonky, perhaps with slightly loose tension, but then the next will be better and so on. My students can often identify which was their first, second, third bead and enjoy actually seeing how their skills have improved.

Where to go next

I believe that the basic beading techniques are the fundamentals to all beadwork and you should be able to learn them for free. These techniques are not copyrighted. So I wanted to make sure that everyone has access to well-thought out materials for learning these building blocks.

If you find my style of teaching and writing works for you, then I hope you will return. I will send you a discount coupon. You can use this to sample some of the patterns on this website. Or, if you live nearby, do please book for one of my classes. You can find an up-to-date list of my teaching schedule on the beading classes page.
