If you want a bit of sparkle, this Swarovski necklace could be the pattern for you. It combines bezelled crystal rivolis with circles made from Cubic Right Angle Weave.
What experience do I need?
The pattern includes full step by step instructions with diagrams and photos to illustrate how to make the components and assemble the necklace. This is a good pattern if you are starting to learn CRAW. The bicones help with the construction of the stitch and the design will give you plenty of practice.
A lot of people are afraid of CRAW. However, you really don’t need to be. It is a lovely technique and gives a lot of flexibility. So, if you are just starting out and you would like a little more help, read this! I suggest you make sure you are happy with basic Right Angle Weave first. Once you are, I promise, CRAW will make sense. I have spent a lot of time trying to work out ways to teach these techniques. So, I put together a couple of free tutorials. You can use them alongside the Swarovski necklace pattern.
You will also enjoy the Swarovski necklace if you are already experienced and want a quick(ish) make.
Materials for the Swarovski Necklace
The ‘circular sparkles’ are made from 3mm and 4mm bicones. If you are on a budget, you can use a different brand of bicones. Just be aware that the Swarovski are the best quality.
I interspersed these rings with beaded Rivolis. Again, if you are on a budget, you can get Chinese Rivolis a lot cheaper than Swarovski. The pattern will still work just as well. I used size 11 and size 15 seed beads to encase each Rivoli.
You will be linking all the components with jump rings. I suggest you either use a closed jump ring, or even consider a split ring. Although the pattern encourages you to use French wire to protect your thread, it is still possible for jump rings to separate. If this happens, then the links will of course fall apart.
I completed my necklace with a hook and eye clasp. You can choose your favourite clasp. The free tutorials section includes a tutorial about French wire and one about adding clasps. So, if you want to download these, they will give you additional help and advice.
