Right Angle Weave Tutorial
This free tutorial is aimed at beginner level. The Right Angle Weave Tutorial looks in detail at what Right Angle Weave (RAW) is. It explains how the stitch is formed. That allows you to understand the way the thread path works. So, I will teach you how to read the beads as you work.
I developed the Right Angle Weave tutorial after teaching a workshop in which the students were using RAW to bead around cabochons. Many students struggled with adding rows to their initial Right Angle Weave strip. So I thought about how best to help them understand how these additional rows work.
Many people find Right Angle Weave confusing because it is worked in ‘units’. So you are constantly moving your thread round in circles, instead of working back and forth in a straight line.
This Right Angle Weave tutorial makes use of different coloured beads to help you understand the thread path of the stitch.
What to try next
If you want to put your skills into practice, then try the Right Angle Weave Bow bracelet. I developed the pattern to help my students practice this technique.
You might also try the beginner’s Right Angle Weave bangle. Once you feel confident with the basics, you can move on to working in Cubic Right Angle Weave.
I believe that the basic beading techniques are the fundamentals to all beadwork and you should be able to learn them for free. These techniques are not copyrighted. So I wanted to make sure that everyone has access to well-thought out materials for learning these building blocks.
