Odd Count Peyote Stitch Tutorial
Odd count Peyote stitch is one form of the basic bead-weaving technique. You can work odd count in flat form, which is what this tutorial covers. You can also make odd count peyote stitch tubes.
In this tutorial, you will learn what odd count peyote stitch is. If you have already tried even count peyote, then it is natural to progress to odd count. This technique involves a slightly more complicated turn around at the end of each row.
You have two different options for making this turn around. This tutorial looks in detail at the ‘square stitch’ turn around. The tutorial shows you how to make strips of odd count peyote, adding in different basic patterns.
Project Ideas
You can turn a patterned strip into a bracelet by just adding a clasp. Alternatively, you can make all your odd count pieces into beaded beads. Then use these to create simple bracelets and necklaces, which will also allow you to practice your stringing techniques.
If you want to know how to choose a clasp, then you might be interested in my book, ‘Beaded Clasps‘. Also, this blog here talks about adding clasps.
Where to go next
I believe that the basic beading techniques are the fundamentals to all beadwork and you should be able to learn them for free. These techniques are not copyrighted. So I wanted to make sure that everyone has access to well-thought out materials for learning these building blocks.
