How Bead Crazy Are You…?

How bead crazy are you? Crazy enough to make a beaded deck of playing cards?

I’m just embarking upon a truly epic beading project for my personal enjoyment. But it set me wondering, would anyone else like to join me? You’d have to qualify as a true bead addict for this. So, is that you? Just how bead crazy are you?

My latest crazy beading project

I said that 2020 was going to be about me focusing on larger bead projects for my own enjoyment. Alongside that, I’m trying to open up some new income streams for myself, so that I’m not totally reliant on the beading market, which seems to be in a tricky place right now.

So, I’m currently working on my second children’s book. I’ve had some lovely feedback from the publication of the first book and I’m truly thrilled that there are children around the world enjoying this.

I’m having a lot of fun illustrating, ‘Wanda, the Kind, Happy Wasp’ (sneak peek down below…)

The thing is, I find I work best when I have some variety in my life. So, I’ve been balancing out the book writing with some beading for personal enjoyment. Why? Well, the beading still helps me relax, but if I’m constantly working on projects that I need to sell, it puts the pressure on to also be writing up tutorials. This takes time away from the book writing. And I’m still struggling a lot with energy and simply can’t do everything I want to be doing.

Anyway, that’s all by way of background, to give you a little taste of what I’m up to at the moment.

The actual reason I’m writing is to talk about the crazy beading project that is providing balance with Wanda the Wasp.

It’s a complete deck of playing cards…

So, I’m having a lot of fun with this. It’s just flat odd count Peyote, with Delicas. What’s not to love?

And watching each playing card come to life (they take me 3-6 days, depending on how much beading time I fit in), is so much fun. This qualifies as the perfect antidote to ‘life’. It’s something I can pick up and put down easily. So, although it’s a big project, it’s perfect for dipping in and out.

I have no idea how long it will take me to make the complete deck of cards, but I smile every time I think about having a deck of beaded playing cards to play with. (They are pretty much life size).

What I’m wondering is, whether anyone else would like to join me in this venture. Would you?

If you do want to join me, I’ve now published the pattern. You get to choose whether you make just one card, or try for all 52. And the pattern gives you options for buying all cards or buying single cards. So, you don’t have to break the bank to do this! Click here to grab your copy of the pattern now.
