About the DiamonDuo Earrings
I created these DiamonDuo earrings as an early experiment. I had just a couple of small packs of the DiamonDuo beads and I wanted to make a simple project that would show them off.
From my point of view, as a designer, this kind of strategy is a really good way to get to know a new type of bead. So, for this same reason, this pattern is a great place for you to start if you have never used DiamonDuos before.
If you are new to the DiamonDuo beads, their name pretty much describes what they are. They are Diamond shaped and have two holes through them. One hole through each of the top and bottom points.
If you know your seed beads, then the name may have made you think of Superduos. In actual fact, the DiamonDuos are a very similar size to Superduos. But of course the diamond shape lends itself to much stronger lines and gives a more geometric feel.
Just for fun, I carried out an experiment to see whether DiamonDuos could be used interchangeably with Superduos. You can read all about it here. If you don’t have any DiamonDuos, this also works with GemDuos.

Back to the DiamonDuos earring pattern…
I wanted to see if I was able to arrange the DiamonDuo beads into a diamond shape. In order to do this, I needed to work out the thread paths of course. But I also needed a way of disguising the thread as it moves from one hole to the next in the shaped beads.
There is a tried and tested method for this. Use smaller seed beads to cover the thread. So in this case, I have used size 15 seed beads.
You will find that this is a design that lends itself to pretty much any colour scheme. In mine, I picked contrasting colours for the two bead types. But this would look great using beads in similar shades.
