About the Chilli Beads Necklace

I designed this necklace by accident. I was planning to make a bracelet, using the Chilli beads and I wanted to string the beads side by side. But as so often happens, the beads had other plans!

This necklace was a design that I tried out after several more Chilli bead projects. So I thought I had got a feel for how the beads worked. It turns out I was wrong! When I strung the beads, they formed a natural, but strong curve. This did not really lend itself to a bracelet (although I did try and experimented with ways of using the curve).

I still loved the texture and shape that I had created, so I was determined to use it somehow. My experiments eventually led me to recognise that this would make a great focal section for a necklace. So I found myself beading the Chilli beads necklace!

The Rococo name just stuck since the style reminded me of that style of art and architecture. I think probably the colouring I chose, which is feminine and somewhat romantic, also helped to create the Rococo link in my head.

Helpful information

The Rococo Chilli Beads Necklace uses Peyote stitch to create the focal section. You will be working around the Chilli beads and adding in the pearls to give the final feminine touch. I created the front pendant part to complete the design. I chose to hang the necklace on a spiral ladder rope and completed the entire necklace with a beaded clasp. You could use any rope that you wish and can replace the beaded clasp with a shop-bought clasp if you prefer.

The Rococo Chilli beads necklace is one of my favourite designs. It is often the way that a design that just evolves works better than when I am trying to create something. I certainly fell in love with the Chilli beads. As you will see, I have now created quite a few pieces of jewellery from them. So I hope you enjoy this too.
