I have been exploring a new concept – a beaded box with drawers instead of a lid. So, this blackforest gateau beaded box is my first pattern using that idea.

I will come back to tell you more about the construction and size of the box below.

The blackforest gateau beaded box is made with the following materials:

  • Size 10 Delicas in 3 colours (a total of 120g)
  • Seed beads in size 15, 11 and 8
  • Peanut beads
  • 3mm bugle beads
  • 6mm round druks
  • Your choice of beading thread

I sell many of these materials in the beading supplies department. But I know that it can be annoying to have to buy a lot of new bead types. So, I have also put together a kit for this beaded box. Find the kit here>>

Experience and Techniques

This beaded box is made entirely with Peyote stitch. You will be using the circular, tubular, odd count and Cellini spiral variations. So, I have assumed you are already competent in all those techniques.

If you would like to refresh your memory, I do have free tutorials you can download from this website.

The blackforest gateau beaded box is an advanced project. I have written instructions as clearly as possible. You will get 14 pages of detailed instructions with diagrams and photos to guide you. But this is a tricky project and only suitable for people who are really confident in Peyote stitch.

If you have never made a beaded box before, this is probably not the best place to begin. So, work up to this – try the beaded boxes for keys as a good starting point. The birthday cake box would also be helpful to try before you begin this. Then, when you have mastered those, come back to try the blackforest gateau!

About the Blackforest Gateau beaded box

I promised you a few more details about the blackforest gateau beaded box…

This finished size is about 4″ (10cm) in diameter and just under 2″ (5cm) in height (at the cream). The box contains five drawers designed to look like slices of cake. Each drawer is big enough to hold a reel of nymo comfortably. So, you could store anything of a similar size in these.

The cake decoration uses some freeform techniques, so you can use your artistic license here.

This is a real treat for anyone who loves cake or chocolate or both!
