This beginner necklace pattern originally appeared in Bead Magazine back in 2009. I am just publishing it on here for the first time, now nine years later!

Materials

You will need the following materials for this beginner necklace pattern:

  • size 8 seed beads in two shades of green
  • teardrop beads, or something similar to use as flower petals
  • 5mm round beads for flower centres
  • Lampwork or Lucite beads, or similar (the pattern includes a few suggested alternatives)
  • a length of chain
  • split rings
  • jump rings
  • head pins
  • clasp
  • beading thread

So, from that list of materials, you may have guessed this project mixes in some bead-weaving and really simple jewellery making. That means you will need scissors, needle and also round nose pliers for this project.

Experience and Techniques

This really is a project that you can complete at any level of experience. The bead-weaving elements are made with basic brick stitch. I have included detailed instructions. So, you don’t need any previous experience of the stitch.

Then, you will be using some very simple jewellery making techniques to assemble everything.

So, the different components may make you think that this is a more complex project. But it really is a beginner necklace pattern!

About the beginner necklace pattern

I enjoy being inspired by nature. So, for this necklace, I took inspiration from daisies. However, you can change the flowers if you wish. So, if you can’t find the same teardrop beads I used for petals, try something else. The beauty of all the new seed beads is we now have so many that will make lovely flower petals!

I like creating designs that look complex, but are really simple to make. So, by mixing up difference components, in this necklace, you create a lot of interest.

Happily, the project won’t take you too long to complete. (I love incorporating chain for this reason!…you can use it to add length to a necklace without needing to take more time for the project!).

So, maybe you want to put your own interpretation on this design? Well, let me know how you get on and send me a photo of your version of this beginner necklace pattern.
