This wave beaded bead combines basic techniques to create a dimensional, textured bead. So, read on to find out more…

Materials

You simply need size 11 seed beads in two colours (or three if you prefer). You only need about a gram of beads in each colour. So, this is a good stash-busting project.

If you want, you can also try this with different sized seed beads. The technique should work on any size. Just make sure that you use the same brand of seed bead for both colours. If you want to know why, then check out this blog>>

You will also need your favourite beading thread.

Made with size 11 beads, the wave beaded bead is about 1″ (2.5cm) long.

Experience and Techniques

The wave beaded bead base is made with basic Right-Angle Weave. I have explained the technique in great detail, using colouring to help you understand the thread path. So, this portion would be suitable for beginner level.

You will then add the ‘waves’ using even count Peyote stitch. Again, this is a basic technique. However, the shaping is going to push your beads into some weird alignments. So, if you’re completely new to the technique, you might have difficulty reading the beads and seeing where to go.

I have included lots of diagrams and photos to show you each step. I also used colouring that will help you to see what is going on as you work.

About the wave beaded bead

Throughout 2019, I am aiming to create 50 new beaded bead designs – a little personal challenge! So, to help me along, I asked people for ideas. Maybe techniques or beads they wanted to see used in a beaded bead design.

So, this wave beaded bead results from a request for a beaded bead using RAW and peyote. Now, these two techniques combine seamlessly. This made creating this design quite intuitive. I decided to explore some ideas for shaping the Peyote, that I had used on my Geometric bauble cover. They worked well to create this dimensional, textured beaded bead.
