This Star of Bethlehem beading tutorial is designed specifically to go with my beaded Nativity. I scaled it to hang over the stable. However, you can also scale it up. The process is simple: just add more rows. I’ve explained how to do that in the tutorial.

Materials

You are going to be using size 11 Delica beads to make the main body of the star. I chose to use a Duracoat gold finish. I’ve included the exact colour code in the tutorial.

You might want to use a different shade, or perhaps make a silver star.

I have also recommended using a few size 15/0 seed beads to complete the star. You only need a handful.

So, it’s entirely possible that you have all of these beads in your stash already.

This star is just 1″ in size, so it only needs a few grams of beads.

You will also need your favourite beading thread. For me, this is fireline. But you are welcome to choose whatever suits you best.

Experience and Techniques

You are going to be working in peyote stitch to make your Star of Bethlehem.

If you’ve ever made any peyote stars in the past, then this is going to feel very familiar. I have basically adapted the traditional Peyote star technique to add in an extra point and shape the star in the traditional way.

So, this is an intermediate level project. Because of the shaping, I recommend you are already familiar with making warped squares and peyote stars before you begin this. However, if that is all new to you, don’t worry… I run a free online class to teach you the basic techniques. So, you can check that out at this link. I have also included details of that in the Star of Bethlehem beading tutorial.

About the Star of Bethlehem beading tutorial

I think I’ve told you pretty much all you need to know about the project. So, the tutorial gives you 8 pages of detailed instructions. I’ve included step-by-step diagrams to illustrate thread paths. Plus, detailed photos to show the star coming together.

Of course, everything is written out in words too. So, you should have plenty of help to suit your style of learning.
