This peacock feather pendant is simple to make and beautifully tactile to wear. Made with size 11 beads, it measures about 7cm in length. You can also scale this down to make earrings. Find out how…

Materials

I used size 11 seed beads for my peacock feather pendant. Although I chose Matsuno brand, this design will work with any brand of beads. Just please make sure you use the same brand in all your colours.

You will need:

  • green
  • brown
  • blue
  • black

Plus your favourite beading thread. You can find all these materials here in my beading supplies>>

If you like really big earrings, then you can make a pair using the size 11 beads. But if, like me, you prefer something a little daintier, just scale this design down by using size 15 seed beads.

If you are making earrings, then you will also need two jump rings and a pair of ear wires of your choice.

Experience and Techniques

The peacock feather pendant is a basic brick stitch pattern. I have assumed that you already know how to work in brick stitch. But if that isn’t the case, don’t worry… I have linked to free online tutorials that you can use to learn (or revise) the basics. You can find them all here>>

So, this project can be completed by anyone.

About the Peacock Feather Pendant

I have been inspired to look at how some of the 2019 Catwalk trends might translate into beadwork. So, one of those big trends is for using feathers.

That set me thinking: could I make a piece of jewellery that resembled a feather? I love peacocks and their feathers are very possibly the most distinctive you will find. Plus, the real feathers can be used as fashion accessories. So, this idea inspired me to experiment.

Just as a real feather is very tactile, so is this pendant. The fringe will have you wanting to run your fingers through the beads!

And there’s nothing to stop you from getting creative… Why not use the design, but try a totally different colour scheme? So, over to you to have fun and enjoy…
