About the Herringbone Heart Necklace

Hearts are not just for Valentine’s and this herringbone heart necklace design is definitely a classic style. It works brilliantly in metallic beads as it will mimic a genuine silver or gold necklace. Of course, you can always jazz it up in some different colours if you wish!

You will make the herringbone heart necklace in two sections. Create the heart using tubular herringbone. I used clever decoration on this to make the trickiest part of the design a little easier. You can add the decoration as you please. So, it’s perfect for disguising any slightly untidy bits of beading.

Since I was aiming to create a pattern that is accessible for all levels, I decided to use another basic technique for the chain. This is a simple spiral staircase. If you are more experienced and you want to use a different beaded rope, of course you can do this. If you need to know more about spiral stitches, then this booklet will help – it details lots of variations.

If you are looking for other ways to personalise your herringbone heart necklace, why not make a beaded clasp? You can find plenty of ideas in my beaded clasps book. Or you can actually adapt the pendant design into a clasp – just combine it with a toggle.

Materials

The herringbone heart necklace pattern includes full details of the bead colours I used. You can make this with any brand of seed bead, but just make sure you use the same brand for all your beads – here’s the reason why! Another important consideration for these materials… Your A and B beads must be in the same colour for the design to work effectively.
