About the French Beaded Sunflower Pattern

The French beaded sunflower pattern contains detailed instructions with step-by-step photos to guide you through the process of making this flower. If you have just stumbled upon this page, you can read more about French beading here.

I designed my French beaded sunflower many years ago when I first started beading. I am now on a mission to write up all the many designs that I created at that time. So, do keep checking back to see some new patterns appearing.

Materials

The French beaded sunflower pattern uses size 11 seed beads. I use Matsuno brand, which you can buy here. However, any brand will work – just make sure you keep to the same brand in all the colours!

You will be working with 24ga (0.5mm) wire for this project and I like to match my wires to my bead colours. There are so many colours of wire available on the market these days. If you enjoy French beading, it is worth building up a collection of different colours. If you are limiting your colour range, then try and use white wire with lighter coloured beads and green wire is really useful as it will work for both leaves and darker coloured beads.

You can buy the wire, in the colours you need for this project, right here.

I like to finish my stems with floral stem tape and embroidery silk, so I recommend this. Again, supplies of these products are available here.

Techniques

The French beaded sunflower pattern assumes you are already familiar with the basic techniques. If you are not, I have free tutorials that you can download from this website to help you.

If you are just starting out, then you might be interested in my ebook, ‘Bead Flowers and Wedding Bouquets‘. This includes video demonstrations of all the basic techniques, along with fabulous French beaded flower patterns that are not available anywhere else.

If you are a little more advanced, then you can add leaves to the stem of your sunflower using the pattern for my Anthurium which is available only in ‘Bead Flowers and Corsages‘ (again, this book has videos showing you the more advanced techniques that it covers).
