The blackforest cake slice beaded box measures 3.5″ long, 2.5″ high and 2″ wide. It contains two drawers that extend the full length and width of the box. So, let me tell you about the materials and techniques. Then I will explain a little more about the pattern.

You can also watch a little video showcasing the box here…

Materials

You will need size 8 seed beads in brown, red and white. Then, size 11 seed beads (use the rounded type, not delicas or other cylinder beads) in cream, brown, red and green. Plus size 15 seed beads in cream. I have given the exact quantities and colours I used in the tutorial instructions.

You can use any brand of seed beads for this project. But please make sure you stick to the same brand for each bead size. Again, this is something that I have explained in the tutorial.

You will also need your favourite beading thread. You’re going to want to have some in white and some in black or brown. This is also something that I have explained fully in the tutorial.

Experience and Techniques

This is an advanced bead-weaving project. I have assumed that you are already experienced in the following techniques:

  • Cubic Right Angle Weave
  • Cellini Spiral
  • Freeform Beading

But, if you do get stuck on anything, I do also have video demonstrations available online. You can find them all at this link.

You need to be good at reading and interpreting written instructions. And I will be asking you to use your problem-solving abilities, your artistic license, and work things out for yourself.

I have included lots of step-by-step photos to show progress on the project. But the end result is going to be up to you. So, you should be someone who is comfortable working in free-form when it comes to the decoration.

If this all sounds a little scary and you would prefer an easier blackforest cake slice project, then try this pattern instead.

About the blackforest cake slice beaded box

Hopefully, between the initial description and the video, you have seen most of this project.

It is an idea that I came up with as I was experimenting with making beaded boxes with drawers, rather than lids. The CRAW allows for a very solid structure and a great base for embellishing. So, all the detailed embellishment that really ‘makes’ this cake is quite free-form. It’s a lot of fun to create and even more fun to use!
