This beaded gingerbread house is truly miniature, at just over 1″ in size. It would make a cute ornament for your Christmas tree. Or, perhaps you could even wear this as a pendant? So, what does it take to make it?

Materials

You will be using size 11 Delicas for this project. You could substitute with another brand of cylinder beads, like the TOHO Treasures or TOHO AIKOs.

The pattern requires just a few grams in each colour. I have included the exact colour numbers that I used. So, you can re-create my house exactly. Or, maybe you prefer to make a few colour substitutions to create your own version.

The beaded gingerbread house is hollow, so you’re going to need extremely good beading tension to make it work. Now, you may or may not know, but your choice of thread will have an effect on your tension. So, I recommend using Fireline beading thread. I used 4lb, but 6lb will work just as well.

Techniques and Experience

You are going to work in flat, even count Peyote and also basic brick stitch. That may surprise you to hear!

I’ve given you pattern charts and also word charts to follow. So, you can add your design with ease.

You’ll end up with two flat pieces of beadwork that you will need to assemble into the dimensional shape. I’m going to be asking you to use your own initiative as you do that. So, for that reason, I’ve suggested this is an intermediate level project.

But it may not be… The word charts are easy to follow. So, as long as you know your techniques, and you’re happy to use some common sense in the assembly process, this could be a project for any level of experience.

About the beaded gingerbread house decoration

I’ve given you a little information in the description above. So, this is really teeny-tiny. It’s lightweight enough to hang on a Christmas tree. And it is also hollow, so will work well for hanging.

You could add this over a tea light if you wish.

In fact, this is the exact little gingerbread house that I included in my beaded snow globe. So, if you want to see the effect of the tea light, take a look at the snow globe pattern here.

I have invited you to use your own ideas when it comes to adding a loop for hanging your gingerbread house. So, you might bead a rope, or perhaps just add a split ring. Then you can thread some ribbon through that.

This is a cute quick make that I hope you’ll enjoy.
