About the Beaded Father Christmas

I like to try and design at least one new Christmas beading project each year. So this year I made a beaded Father Christmas. He is basically a beaded bead, but looks so cute hanging on your Christmas tree. He is about 2″ (5cm) in height.

You will be using netting to bead around a wooden bead. Then add a Peyote stitch hat. Use freeform (structured – don’t panic!) to add his hair and whiskers and of course the facial features. You can then string your beaded Father Christmas from a piece of ribbon to hang on your tree, or he has a lovely flat base which makes him perfect to just decorate your room.

Useful information

The beaded Father Christmas can be made in an afternoon and uses a selection of basic seed beads. So you may have a lot of these materials in your stash already. The techniques are fairly basic, but I suggest that this is probably best for intermediate level. Although don’t be put off if you are an adventurous beginner: the pattern includes clear instructions. You can also find free tutorials for a lot of the basic beading techniques on this website. So those will help to get you started.

If you like making Christmas decorations, then I have several popular patterns on this website, including my angel and the star ornament that you see below. I have another beaded Father Christmas idea, using bead embroidery to create a motif for decorating a stocking. You can find this in my ebook, ‘Beaded Christmas Decorations‘, where you will also find plenty of other Christmas beading ideas.

This is part of a series of three ebooks with a Christmas theme. So you can bead lots of different decorations for your festive table, make beaded cards, gift tags and of course plenty of Christmas gift ideas. Keep a look out online for more Christmas patterns this year – I had a couple of other ideas too!
