This ice crystal decoration is a perfect last-minute make for Christmas.

Materials

Combine pearls, seed beads and spike beads to create a dainty decoration. Check out my beading supplies for the materials you will need.

Techniques and Experience

The ice crystal decoration pattern uses cubic Right Angle Weave and netting. If you need a bit more information about those techniques, check out this blog.

This design works in three dimensions. So, it can be a little tricky to master if you are new to these techniques. However, if you already have some experience, it should be no problem at all and can be made in less than an hour.

If you feel you might need some technique help, then check out the free tutorials on this website. I have a great tutorial to teach you the basics of dimensional Right Angle Weave!

About the Ice Crystal Decoration

I designed this little decoration by accident! I was actually trying to use the crystal spike beads to make a snowflake. However, as with all good plans, the beads had other ideas.

So, I still ended up keeping to the ice crystal idea, but the finished decoration took a very different form. You might like to try these in different colours. I can certainly see red, gold or blue variations looks fabulous on a Christmas tree.

The curious amongst you might like to know what happened to the original idea… Well, it took me another couple of years of experiments. But I did eventually manage to create a beaded snowflake using the spike beads. So, if you would like the pattern, I have it here.

As with all good ideas, I didn’t stop at just one snowflake. Oh no! So, scroll down to see a few linked pattern ideas to try. These include the Elsa snowflake that also emerged from these design sessions.
