This sugar Easter egg bead pattern came from a challenge… Could I make a sugar egg out of beads? Well, I’m always up for a challenge. So, here is the answer!

Materials

This sugar Easter egg bead pattern requires the following beads:

  • Size 11 seed beads (I don’t think this will work as well with delicas…see why, below!)
  • 32 Forget-me-not flower beads
  • A 25mm x 18mm Lunasoft cabochon (or any cabochon in that size)
  • 75 size 15 seed beads
  • Your choice of beading thread

Now, the reason I specify the rounded seed beads (not cylinders) is because they will help to give your egg a more rounded feel. I think the more angular shaping on the Delicas may lead to a more angular egg. But I could be wrong…

The other benefit is that the rounded seed beads are cheaper than cylinder beads!

I worked with Miyuki brand, but this will work with any brand. Just make sure you don’t try and mix different brands. Also, please choose a good quality brand – you don’t want to be working with a lot of mis-shapen or irregular beads.

Experience and Techniques

This is a fairly advanced pattern. So, I recommend it for confident beaders.

I used mostly brick stitch to make my beaded sugar Easter egg. I did use a couple of other basic techniques as well. So, before you start this, you should feel comfortable with the following techniques:

  • flat brick stitch
  • tubular brick stitch
  • brick stitch increase
  • basic Modified Right Angle Weave
  • basic peyote

If you’re already thinking ‘this isn’t for me’ because I don’t know those techniques, stop right there! If you like this project, you should go for it.

In my  pattern instructions, I have included links to free beginner level tutorials for all the techniques. So, yes, you may need to do a little ‘homework’. But you can learn all these things as you go and definitely make your own beaded egg.

Just take a look at this blog if you don’t believe me!

About the sugar Easter egg bead pattern

I designed a little Spring scene with 3D Easter eggs to sit inside my beaded sugar Easter egg. So, you get all this design in the tutorial. But I have also included blank graph paper (shaped to fit) and some additional ideas for 3D decorations.

So, you can use these to design your own egg. Or maybe make more than one egg.

The finished size of the egg is about 2.5″ high, 2″ wide and 1.5″ deep.

Choose your own colouring and you can personalise the decoration on the egg too. So, have a little fun with this project. It doesn’t take too long to make!
