My French beaded Passion flower is an early design. It looks lovely in a display, or on its own.

Materials

You will need the following materials for your French beaded Passion Flower:

  • Size 11 seed beads in mauve, white, green and black
  • 28ga (0.315mm) wire in green and purple
  • 24ga (0.5mm) wire in purple
  • 18ga wire for stiffening the flower stems
  • Floral stem tape
  • Embroidery silk

I used a bead spinner to string beads for this flower. But you may prefer to string them by hand. You probably noticed that the petals use two different colours. So, you will need to set this up when you string the beads. That means you will be counting beads onto the wire and you may prefer to do that by hand.

You will also need a pair of wire cutters. Remember to check my beading supplies department for everything you need for this project.

Experience and Techniques

The French beaded Passion Flower uses a few different techniques:

These are all techniques that you will learn as a beginner. So, this project is really suitable for any level.

I have labelled it as intermediate because the pattern assumes you are already familiar with the techniques. If this is not the case, I have included a link to some free tutorials you can use.

About the French Beaded Passion Flower Pattern

This is one of my earliest flower designs. I love the colourful, slightly exotic look of the blooms on a Passiflora plant. So, I thought, why not take them and use them in displays?

I haven’t yet tried to make a complete climbing plant, but I may do this one day!

You will find the real flowers come in a few different colours. I have chosen one of the most popular mauve and white varieties to make. But you can do a little research and try a different colour if you wish.
