Have you tried the new Kos beads yet? This is one of my first designs with those beads and I can honestly say, I love them!

One of my usual bugbears with two-holed seed beads is that you end up with a visible thread when you pass from one hole to the other. With the Kos beads, using this design, you can hide those visible threads. So, you get a seamless finish which I love.

Materials

For this necklace, you will need:

  • Kos beads
  • Honeycomb beads
  • 5x16mm daggers
  • 6mm Druks or round beads
  • 4mm pearls
  • One 18mm glass cabochon
  • Size 11/0 Delicas
  • Your choice of clasp
  • Your choice of beading thread

This may sound like a horrifically long list of materials, but I actually created a very economical design. So, for the most part you will be using whole strings of beads, not having to invest in a lot of beads that leave you with a part-finished packet.

I stock most of these beads here on my website. So, if you need some supplies, check out this link to my beading supplies department>>

Experience and Techniques

For the focal sections of this necklace, you are mostly going to be stringing beads. If you have already used two-holed seed beads, then you will know what I mean. Basically, the technique is all about finding a path through the beads to create a secure finish without thread showing.

I have written instructions with lots of detailed diagrams to illustrate and explain the thread paths. So, these should be simple to follow.

I have also used a little bit of basic circular Peyote and basic odd count peyote. I have assumed you are familiar with those techniques. So, if that’s not the case, then you might also like to check out the free tutorials on this website and download the ones that you need.

This is an intermediate level project.

About the Kos Beads Collar Necklace

Firstly, most importantly, you can easily adjust the length of this necklace. You won’t need to adjust the quantity of shaped seed beads. I have used a small Peyote rope to complete the back section. So, by adjusting the length of this, you can create the perfect fit for you.

The necklace has a natural shape that lends itself to sitting at collar length and drapes beautifully around the neck.

You can experiment with lots of different colour schemes for this design. So, enjoy making it your own.
