My butterfly floral necklace is another project for the Beadsmith Inspiration Squad. So, it uses materials that I sell on this website. Read on to find out more…

Materials

The butterfly floral necklace requires the following beads:

  • Size 11 Delicas
  • Size 15 Delicas
  • GemDuo (8x5mm)
  • PaisleyDuo
  • Honeycomb Jewels

You will need beading thread to make the beaded components. So, use a thread that you find comfortable to work with. Make sure it is also strong.

Then, you can make the necklace in a variety of ways. I chose to string my beads onto memory wire, just curling the ends over to keep everything in place. This is a very simple, easy option.

You could also string them onto a metal-based thread, like Beadalon. Then attach a clasp using crimp beads. If you need some tips for either of these methods, check out this blog>>

Or, if basic jewellery making isn’t your thing, you can create a bead-woven necklace. So, string the beaded beads with beading thread. You can add a beaded rope to either end if you wish. Then, you might consider using a beaded clasp to finish everything off. If you like that idea, you can find plenty of beaded clasp inspiration here>>

Whichever option you choose, you will need the appropriate stringing materials and clasp. Plus some 4mm beads to use as spacers – I used pearls.

You can find all the beads for this project in my beading supplies department on this website.

Experience and Techniques

I recommend this as a project for intermediate beaders. The techniques aren’t too difficult. But you will be working with size 15 beads and also two-holed beads.

For the butterflies you will need to be familiar with basic even count peyote. The remaining techniques are really just stringing.

About the Butterfly Floral Necklace

I love making beaded beads or components. They are quick to do and versatile to use.

So, my butterfly floral necklace actually evolved from two other projects. It is simply a series of beaded beads, strung as you please. You might even choose to make a bracelet to match, or instead of the necklace.

Often, as I am working, I see other possibilities for a component. So, this necklace is one of those examples. One thing leads to another…!
