This beginner’s Peyote increase-decrease bracelet is a great project for learning how to increase and decrease in peyote stitch.

You will be working a tube with increases and decreases to form the shaping. The pattern includes the full instructions for the bracelet, but you will need to add a clasp of your choice.

If you want to add the beaded clasp I used, you will need a to choose the advanced option from the drop-down menu. This gives you instructions for a beaded clasp from my book, ‘Beaded Clasps’. The book includes projects for all levels. It will teach you how to make clasps in lots of different shapes and styles, and using different bead-weaving techniques. So, you may prefer to buy a copy of the book as you will get lots of options that you can use in different projects.

For a quicker, easier finish, just use a metal clasp of your choice. This is the option that comes in the beginner level pattern.

You can use this beginner’s Peyote increase-decrease technique to make a necklace or a bracelet.

What Materials do I need?

You simply need seed beads. Choose two colours and make sure they are the same size and the same brand of bead.

If you’re not sure about bead brands, then check out this blog. It explains the difference and shows you why it is important to understand brands.

I recommend that you use two colours that contrast well. This beginner’s Peyote increase-decrease pattern uses colouring to make life easy for you. So, you will learn the technique, then use the colouring to get to understand it as you work.

When you feel confident with the technique, you can move on to try this in a single colour of beads.

Notes on the Beginner’s Peyote Increase and Decrease

I always recommend that people start with flat Peyote stitch. So, you will learn to make a flat strip. This is great for bracelets or chokers, but what if you want to shape it?

Well, then you need to learn how to increase and decrease. So, this project is a fabulous way of learning those skills. In this bracelet design, I decided to use tubular Peyote as a basis. However, the increasing and decreasing technique you are going to learn, can also be applied to flat Peyote.

So, this is always a popular project with my beginners!
