About the AVA Bead Pendant

Since I began trialling AVA beads in 2016, they have really captured my imagination. This AVA bead pendant was another little experiment in creating a different pattern with the beads. I actually used them to capture a Rivoli and found this, using some netting, to be a really fast and effective way of holding the stone. It is an idea that I plan to take forward. Having created the design, the resulting AVA bead pendant reminded me of filigree work for some reason. So that is where it gained its name.

Materials

For this AVA bead pendant, you will need just 8 AVA beads, which means you can get more than one project out of your 20-bead pack. You can purchase the beads here. If you have stumbled upon this pattern and have never seen AVA beads before, then you can find out all about them in this handy blog. For this project I combined the AVAs with a 14mm Rivoli, seed beads in size 11 and size 15 – I used Miyuki brand. So it is best if you also use the same brand as I cannot guarantee the fit with another seed bead brand. If you are wondering why I say this, then have a quick read of this really interesting blog post.

Last, but not least, you also need 13 4mm rondelles to complete the design. Mine came from Potomac Beads. So if you are wondering where to get the colour I used, that is your answer. The pattern comes with details of the colouring, comprehensive step-by-step instructions and diagrams or photos to illustrate everything.

I chose to hang my AVA bead pendant on a ready-made chain, but if you prefer, you can always make a beaded chain for this. Just use the same seed beads that you have for the pendant. Then, of course, you will need slightly more than the 1g that the instructions state. So, just bear that in mind. If you are looking for more AVA bead patterns, you can find plenty of ideas here.
