This Star Fish beaded bead is simple to make (don’t be fooled by the appearance!) and great to wear. So, let me tell you more…

Materials

You will need seed beads in two sizes and a combination of colours. I have suggested some colour combinations that you can try for starters. But you can also get creative with your own Star Fish beaded bead designs.

If you are a beginner, then use size 11 and size 8 seed beads. This will create a beaded bead that is about 1.5″ (4cm) in diameter.

More experienced beaders can use size 15 and size 11 seed beads. These will bring the size down to 1″ in diameter.

Don’t try this with Delica (or other Cylinder) beads. Their ultra-regular shape will give you a very angular Star Fish which won’t look so good.

Then, you just need your favourite beading thread. If you need any supplies, you can find them all here>>

Experience and Techniques

Don’t be fooled by the appearance of this Star Fish beaded bead. Genuinely, everyone can make this. I have included special colouring to help beginners. The pattern includes comprehensive diagrams and photos. So, you can see exactly what you are doing throughout.

You are going to be working in tubular Peyote. Since I have graded the bead sizes, you don’t even need to know how to increase and decrease for this project! If you want to find out more about Peyote stitch, then check out this blog, which tells you all you need to know.

About the Star Fish Beaded Bead

If you are a regular customer here, then you probably know all about my 2019 challenge to make a new beaded bead design every week for 50 weeks!

So, I’ve been trying lots of techniques, lots of themes and variety. This design developed naturally from my TOHO challenge piece (a Star Fish beaded box). I had a lot of admirers for the box. So, I thought it would be nice to create a simpler Star Fish that anyone can make. This idea seemed to fit naturally with my beaded bead challenge too!

You have plenty of scope for trying different colouring. The Star Fish beaded beads are easy to string (two of the legs have holes for this purpose). So, you can create beautiful jewellery with this creatures. Each one takes about an hour to make.
