This bicone cube beaded bead is a beginner project. It’s a simple introduction to RAW, with two variations included in this pattern. So, keep reading to find out more…

Materials

Each beaded bead needs just:

  • 12 bicones
  • 24 seed beads (these are optional)
  • Fireline thread

I strongly recommend you use Fireline thread for these because the bicones can tear nylon-based threads. If you really, really won’t use Fireline, then please choose a good quality nylon thread – I have found KO thread to be good. The issue is, bicones can often have sharp edges. In this style of work, the thread is cutting across the bead edge. So, it’s very easy for a sharper edge to end up cutting right through the thread.

If you need to get some thread for this project, you can follow this link.

For my samples, I used 6mm bicones. This gave me beaded beads that are about 1/2″ (1.5cm) in size. But you can also use smaller (or larger) bicones for a different effect.

Experience and Techniques

You don’t need any prior experience to make these bicone cube beaded beads. The pattern gives you a great introduction to Right Angle Weave.

I have shown you the basic cube first. Then also given a variation that uses small seed beads to cover the thread paths. So, you’ll get to learn both techniques in this one project.

About the bicone cube beaded bead

This pattern came about as a request from another beader. In fact, several people have asked for real beginner level beaded beads. So, this is one of them.

The design is incredibly simple and easy to make. So, if you’re new to beading, it’s a great little project to try. As you can see, you can make some very attractive jewellery by stringing these beaded beads with smaller beads like pearls and crystals.

These beaded beads are also a great way to use up leftovers from your stash.
